J.J. McDonnell has partnered with Oyster Recovery Partnership to collect used oyster shells, a limited natural resource, and promote the expansion of oyster beds in the Chesapeake Bay. ORP reseeds used shells with spat (baby oysters) to repopulate the Bay, which has been hurt by historical overfishing and environmental causes. J.J. McDonnell is the only seafood distributor participating in the program and expects to greatly increase the number of shells available for reuse to ORP.
