Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) runs an exciting and ambitious program, working with partners like J.J. McDonnell to transform the world’s seafood markets and promote sustainable fishing practices.

MSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification is a comprehensive traceability program that allows for seafood to be traced from the point of sale all the way back to the specific boat and location from which it was caught. It ensures that MSC labeled products are sourced from an MSC certified environmentally sustainable fishery and are only handled by MSC certified distributors. It also protects buyers, and the fishery, from fraudulent labeling and risks from fisheries carrying products from illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing. As a result, the sustainability of the seafood is ensured and incentive is created for other fisheries to commit to environmentally responsible fishing practices.

Obtaining MSC certification is another way J.J. McDonnell demonstrates its dedication to the sustainability of our resources and our industry. "We want our customers and the consumer to have faith in the fact that our seafood products are accurately represented and that there are means available to reliably trace a product's origin and catch method", explains the Owner of J.J. McDonnell, George McManus.
